Pluralism and Performance : The Many Voices in Ramayana. Supported by Ford Foundation
The Process: Over the three years there would be six programs at Adishakti, which seek to fulfill these goals. YEAR 1 : 2008-2009 Program 1 In the first year would consist of an orientation program for Adishakti , the hosting participants, during which experts would come to Adishakti to upgrade their knowledge in the field. Such experts would include: Arshia Sattar authority on the Valmiki Ramayana { also one of the coordinators of the project} MD Muthkumarswamy of NFSC authority on the folklore around the Ramayana, Dr. Leela Gandhi on old texts in the context of as postcolonialiality David Schulman authority on the Kamban Ramayana, Lakshmi Holmstrom on the Kamban Ramayana, Painter Ghulam Mohamad Sheikh on the Ramayana and Painting, Ashish Rajadhyaksha on the Ramayana and Film, Chhanda Shastra expert Sampanada Mishra on the Poetry in the Ramayana, Ashish Nandy on the Ramayana and cultural psychology, Satyasheel Deshpande for Music in the Ramayana, Gowri Ramanarayana Carnatic Music and the Ramayana Geeta from NFSC Carnatic Music and the Ramayana Shardhalu Ranade the Ramayana as Sacred Text Philip Lutgendorf the Tulsi Ramayana Romila Thapar History and the Ramayana |
Adishakti Ramayana Project so far

MAY 2008 On 27 th Adishakti started its Ramayana project which will be happening for the coming three years. On 26 th and 27 th Prof.Sara Joseph, Arshiya Sattar and Vasanthy Shankaranarayanan, Amol Palekar, Sandya Ghokale and Adishakti members attended the class. | | Muthukumaraswamy giving speech on Ramayana
Ramayana workshop was conducted from 3 rd to 5 th M.D. Muthukumaraswamy and Dr. Leela Gandhi spoke for the session. The main focus of this session was the Ramayana folklore, Muthukumaraswamy gave a speech on this and Leela Gandhi gave a speech on How to read text Post colonial. | | From March 16 th to 30 th , 2009, Adishakti conducted an event around the Ramayana involving performances, discussions and reflections around these performances by experts.
